Dear Cadets, Parents, and Friends of JROTC
Welcome to the Miami Northwestern Senior High School Army Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps (JROTC) program where the standards are very high and our expectations are even higher! The Bull's Battalion is one of the most successful JROTC units in South Florida. The program dates back to 1984. The high standards of our program, combined with the outstanding performance of our cadets, have consistently earned some of the highest accolades (Merit Unit award, Honor Unit award and the very highly coveted greatly sought after Honor Unit with Distinction award earning Miami Northwestern JROTC AdvanceEd Accreditation). The mission of our program is “to motivate young people to be better citizens.” We accomplish this by using sound teaching skills and leadership experience to impart self-discipline, confidence, teamwork, and pride in a job well done. We have high standards for this very popular elective class and we expect the best from our cadets.
It is important for students to understand that there are considerable physical and mental activities in JROTC. In addition to the academic requirements, there are many hours devoted to the practice of drills and ceremony. We also require cadets to attend rehearsals, parades, and special events after school, on Saturdays, as well as, Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day. The entire commitment averages out to one extra day per month. We feel the extra effort is worth it and that is why our cadets demonstrate such high levels of achievement, leadership, and teamwork.
Each JROTC class compromises a Company; - a Unit - Squads and Teams. Together the classes compromise the Bull’s Battalion. As the Regiment is made up of individuals, it goes without saying that the Regiment’s reputation in the school and in the community is shaped by the actions of each of its members. It is expected that each Cadet agrees to abide by the rules and regulations of the JROTC Department and accepts the additional responsibilities as well as the rewards and benefits of membership in this exceptional organizational.
As a reminder, there is no military obligation for any JROTC Cadet, nor any cost for books nor uniforms. However, students are required to pay for lost or damaged uniforms and/or equipment. We feel that JROTC is one of the best classes any student can take at Miami Northwestern Senior High. We pledge to do everything we can to support your efforts to grow and learn as a JROTC cadet. Parents can contact the JROTC instructors by phone at (305) 836- 0991, extension 2313 about any questions concerning your student’s progress or status in the program. We look forward to another successful year and we thank you in advance for your continued cooperation and great support!
